Bio

Wilhelmina Ekström is an artist who works in the mediums of printmaking and 35mm black and white film photography. Ekström was born and raised in New York City where she studied at the International School of Photography and Eleanor Roosevelt High School. In 2024 she graduated from Colby College with a Bachelor of Arts in art history and printmaking.

Ekström uses wood and linoleum in her printmaking practice to create vivid imagery of organic and geometric shapes. She is deeply inspired by the forms and color usage of both her mother's and grandmother's paintings and prints. For Ekström, creating her work is a personal experience tied to her family’s artistic lineage and the therapeutic, physicality of printmaking. Recently, she has been working on a new series inspired by the traditionally feminine practice of knitting and textile design, where she weaves together two separate prints to create a new, fused image.
